As neither "corner" nor "origin" nor "base" are illustrative, might "anchor" 
point serve? It seems good for arc centers, and sufficient for a line midpoint, 
if that is where control is anchored.

But simply "center" point also seems to cover the given examples, perhaps 
failing only on some others? But badly?
