Hi folks,

Just wanted to note that I've been travelling for a few days and will be
for several more. Those tracking the Git trunk closely may see a push
from me in that interval, or may not--much depends on the availability
of downtime and what I can do with it.

Two issues that I know merit my attention soon are:

1. Bjarni's request for a committer bit to the groff repository. As
noted earlier, I sought to solicit the views of the development team
in toto, but heard back from only a minority of our "active
members on duty",[1]...but I also botched the initial communication,
assuming that the Savannah website automatically forwarded emails to
a preferred address. I then tried to use the web form (example[2]),
but I'm uncertain how well that worked. So I'll have to populate a
local mail alias to serve this function, and send mail directly from
my MUA. So my ETA of 1 week from Bjarni's request is blown and will
be blown for likely another 2 weeks or so.

It might also be the case that some of our active members are less
    active than we would hope.

2. Deri submitted an interesting patch to grotty, implementing "true
color" support.[3] I think it uses Thomas Dickey's xterm extension
for 24-bit direct color support (terminology is all over the place
in this area, and the patch suggests a familiarity mainly with the
S-Lang view of the terminal color model, which I think is
    blinkered[4]).

I'd like to merge the patch, but I'll likely whack on it a bit
    afterwards.

In the meantime, it would be helpful to me, and possibly fun for
groff users, if people tried applying the patch and exercising the
new feature to see how it sits, and reported their findings here
    or to the Savannah ticket.[3]

See y'all soon!

Regards,
Branden

[4] To ventilate my inner Ingo Schwarze, I don't regard S-Lang author
John E. Davis as a developer possessed of sound judgment.

For _extensive_ background on this claim, I direct the reader's
