Well, the good news is that you can get the table formatting you want with either DWB 3.3 or Heirloom Doctools tbl. The terrible news is that GNU tbl doesn't do the same, which means this behavior is an incompatibility with AT&T troff, and thus plausibly classifiable as a bug. On the downside for these CDDLy old troffs, these older tbls draw the box lines a bit inaccurately. See attachments. Regards, Branden
