Hi,

My first ever lines of groff, output as default postscript, do render -
partially.

$ groff --version

GNU groff version 1.22.4

$ more /tmp/sample.groff

This is

.I "italic stuff" ,

I hope.

$ groff -ms /tmp/sample.groff > /tmp/sample.ps

troff: fatal error: can't find macro file s

OK, let's skip the macro library, and rely only on basic troff stuff.

That should help me get the hang of things at a simpler level, anyhow.

$ groff /tmp/sample.groff > /tmp/sample.ps

$ evince /tmp/sample.ps

That displays:    This is

I hope

in the default 10p. But where the dickens did the italic line vanish to?

(Adding a ".B xxx" line merely replicates the vanishing trick.)

Prepending:

.ps 40

.PP

did quadruple the font size, so my input isn't all wrong.

(This could be useful, yet. ;)
