Are you using eqn, or straight *roff?

If you're using eqn, likely you need to define your own macro to express
a bigcup operator.

I've attached a quick stab I made.  (I assumed use of the ms macro
package.)  There are more savvy eqn-ators on the groff list who may be
able to offer you something prettier.
