Some months ago this list was quiet as usual. Suddenly Mr Eric

Eric wish of transforming Groff in some kind of DocBook.
Normally, I wouldn't reply to this as both Eric and Peter are quite
capable of defending themselves.
However, the groff project has been looking for a new leader for a long
time -- since Werner first announced his intention to step aside. I,
for one, am very glad that someone of Peter's calibre is being slowly
shoehorned into the role. I suspect that most people have been silent
for fear of spooking the prey (that's enough mixed metaphors for one
paragraph).
As for moving groff to git, that has been proposed, and subsequently
accepted or rejected, for just about every *nix application in the
known universe. I see nothing wrong in someone proposing it here, so
long as the final decision (whatever that may be) is made for the right
reasons.
As for Eric suggesting that groff be transformed into a DocBook clone,
I appreciate that sometimes Eric works on a project so intensely that
he forgets that others do not always share his plan for the future. So
far as I am concerned those who disagree with Eric will soon let him
know -- I know I certainly will. The subscribers to this forum have
never been backward in letting their feelings be known, and I have no
reason to doubt any change in the future.
As far as I am concerned: Eric, if you have any ideas, bring them
forward and argue them with whatever passion you feel they deserve. For
my part, if I disagree with you I shall say so, and in terms
commensurate with those you have used; unfortunately, if I agree with
you I shall probably stay silent.
Peter, you probably missed the quiet request for a leader to step
forward. If you look around, you will see that we have all taken a step
backwards -- and all of us (or, perhaps, all but one) are applauding.
