Hi Denis, I have to confess (yet again) to an inadvertent omission in my first post which probably gave rise to your question. In my later post I gave the full code as far as it is relevant. This makes each box adequate to contain a vertical space of 5m. This is to allow space for people to write their names, addresses and signatures. Then, without the "\v'-1.5m'" in the definition of \*[lmn], the row number would be level with the bottom of the box (i.e. just above the horizontal line). With the "\v'-1.5m'", the row number at the side is pretty well vertically centred between the top and bottom of the box. As you observed, without taking some step to increase the height of the box, the "\v'-1.5m'" will lift the number to the level of the line above, since each box is then only 1v, plus a bit, in height.
