The Intel version of groff is part of the OS distribution. You'll
probably want to recompile groff, just to have the latest. Some will
not recommend not doing this, and I'm sure for good reasons, but I've
been overwriting the OS-distributed groff for years by using:
./configure --prefix=/usr --mandir=/usr/share/man
then "make install" as usual. Anything you put in /usr/share/groff/
site-tmac can be wiped out by a system or security update that
affects groff (whether or not you overwrite it); it's always a good
idea to have that directory backed up elsewhere.
GhostScript will compile without much difficulty on OSX. I use
Preview to check output, but I'll have to check out Jeorg's pointer
to Macports, because I do like gv & I've never gotten it to compile
on OSX.
