I used a similar trick a few months ago when writing Matins of St Dominic.

1. I put a dot in gabc-file instead a white "i".
       initial-style: 1;
       %%
       (c4) .Quó(e)ni(g)am(h) De(h)us(h) ma(h)gnus(g)
Dó(hij)mi(ivHG)nus,(h) (;)

2. Compile.

3. Remove dot in gtex-file

}{\GreSyllable}{\GreSetFirstSyllableText{.}{Q}{uó}{{\GreFirstWord{\GreFirstSyllable
--->

}{\GreSyllable}{\GreSetFirstSyllableText{}{Q}{uó}{{\GreFirstWord{\GreFirstSyllable

4. Compile.

Whenever gabc-file is changed I have to compile+remove+compile again.
