But a necessary one. The mail-archive FAQ does not go into details of the decision, but the archived message I provided in an earlier response gives some. I also think Jeff as not happy about the admin headaches that occurred when all the lists changed from egroups to yahoo groups. > I know my opinion as a ex-user counts as much of nothing, but i must > present my protest on this decision. Now, we are stuck in Yahoo > for as long as its alive! This statement provides little support since Y!G is being used to manage the discussion list. If a Y!G moderator is concerned about the service, they should switch to someone else to host the list and not bother with Y!G at all. You also forget that mail-archive is a free service, with no advertising. Hence, if something causes an administrative burden to mail-archive, it will probably be dropped. I believe Jeff would have like to keep the archives, but the cons out-weighed the pros. And since Y!G does have archives, it is not as he left anyone without any functional archives. BTW, since their if free software out there that can be used to create a list archive (which mail-archive uses), nothing prohibits a Y!G moderator to create their own. If the list is important, maybe the moderator, and/or subscribers, are willing to put in a little money to get a web hosting service to hold their list archives. I had some recent correspondance from one Y!G user related to this, and this is what I recommended. --ewh _______________________________________________ Gossip mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://jab.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/gossip
