(Apologies if this is a duplicate message - the previous one
had poorly formatted headers.)

Between Wed, 3 Nov 1999 23:11:21 -0800 and Sat, 6 Nov 1999 12:10:35
-0800 (plus or minus a few minutes) the mail-archive service filed
mail incorrectly. Specifically, mail was misdated with a January 1999
timestamp.

Here's what happened:

* mail-archive needed better performance
   * so I upgraded a processor
       * which required updating a computer's BIOS
           * which reset the clock
                * which started misdating email
                     * which I only noticed a few days later

All lists with traffic during this time period were affected.
No mail was lost, we misdated tens of thousands of messages.
The clock has been reset and everything is working correctly now.
I'm currently investigating the best way to resolve the situation,
but it will take (much) time before anything is changed.

Sorry for the confusion.

Cheers,
Jeff

PS. So no, this is not the Y2K bug visiting early!
