Even better ! > >1) Increase the 'maximum_pages' config for htsearch to 30 (or at least > >20, see http://www.htdig.org/attrs.html#maximum_pages) > > I'm surprised that users would have patience to look through more than > 100 search results. I'm wondering if there is a cost would be in terms of > search performance and search user interface, and if implementing > request #2 alone would solve the problem without any such penalties. I think no one will be hurt by increasing that number. Perfomance is no issue since the number of results has to be calculated anyway (try "Exception" on JBoss-user). Offering the links to the results would allow users to leverage the CPU power that has been invested at the server side. I think the deciscion should be left to the user if he wants to go through more than 100 results. Most of the time you can determine an interesting posting from an uninteresting one with the subject of the email. And believe me, if you fought with your application server for 24 hours to get it running you have no problem with investing 30 minutes to scan through 200 mails. But if the solution for your problem is hidden from you and you discover that later, you will just go nuts.
