What would you suggest? Htdig is a pretty serious search engine; as
far as I know it is the best available in the free software world, and
I've been happy with its performance. I will accept an alternative
"advanced serach interface" HTML form frontend for htdig if you feel
that some of the fancier query options could be put to good use. Note
that I keep synonym matching off for performance reasons.

>- monthly archive option

This is a difficult undertaking. Besides changing how files are
internally organized, there is the HTML layout which is best handled
by a MHonArc rcfile, cascaded against the current default
rcfile. Finally, because mail-archive.com is a completely 100%
no-two-ways-about-it automated service, the patch would also have to
autodetect lists with enough traffic to benefit from a monthly
archive. Of course, let me know if you or your list members are
interested in tackling the problem - but it's more involved than a
simple patch.
