Was there any further explanation for the outage?  I understand the Google 
GPS-based game "Ingress" was also affected.

Is there anything we can add to our map pages to confirm that the Maps API 
service itself is fully operational, so we can degrade gracefully?   I'd 
prefer *not* to show an ugly popup message that something is wrong with my 
key...
