Does anyone have any information on the best way to create a university map? I work for a university in the Midwest and we are trying to update our campus map from a static PDF to a more interactive Google map. Many of our buildings are missing from Google Maps and my efforts with Google Map Maker have been fruitless. I made some edits that sat there for two months before I got an email saying that they were approved, but they never showed up on the map. I've looked into the Base Map Partner Program, but we don't have the correct file formats that Google requires and I do not know how to obtain them. If anyone knows how to get those correct formats, I would very much appreciate some help.
I just want to create a simple map with all of our buildings on it and access to layers with parking and dining information. KML polygons for our buildings do not seem to be the best option since that much KML loads slowly for our large campus. Image overlays also load slowly. Ideally, I'd like to build something like this: http://www.washington.edu/maps/ but I do not know how they made the image tiles. If anyone can give me some pointers on this project, I would really appreciate it. I've been researching for about a month and I am at my wits' end. I've never worked with interactive maps before and have limited experience with Javascript, so any help would be much appreciated. Also, if anyone knows who to contact at Google about a project like this, please let me know. Thanks for your help.
