It works for me on google maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http:%2F%2Fwww.yarvolgar.com%2Fkml%2Ftry.kmz&hl=en&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=41.632176,56.513672&t=m&z=3 Which leads me to believe it should work with the API. Does KmlLayer.getStatus() tell you anything? getStatus() KmlLayerStatus Get the status of the layer, set once the requested document has loaded.
