The disgrace continues: AT&T exiting the long distance business
As their decline into the depths of Big Tech hell continues, AT&T
apparently is exiting the long distance business in terms of
availability as a "selectable" long distance carrier. I was just
emailed a copy of a notice that went out today to NANP (North American
Numbering Plan) informing that:
"Effective October 15, 2025, all long-distance services provided by AT&T
will be grandfathered. New orders for AT&T long distance service must
not be issued by any Local Service Providers. Existing AT&T long-
distance service subscribers can continue using their service or can
decide to cancel their LD service at any time."
My interpretation of this -- not confirmed at this time -- is this means
it will no longer be possible for random subscribers to select AT&T as
their LD carrier after that date, though existing subs will continue to
be served (for the time being). I am assuming this does not impact AT&T
wireless subs, or users of their "trick you into giving up your landline
'AT&T Phone Advanced' service" that uses in-home hardware to connect to
AT&T via wireless/broadband, especially since one of the selling points
AT&T is pushing for Phone Advanced is free domestic long distance
included.
One way or another, AT&T continues their accelerating fall into disgrace.
