Claiming it's pro-security, Google plans to restrict sideloading to
"verified developers"

While Google claims there will be a "separate" workflow for hobbyists
and students (whatever that means), overall this appears to be a
terrible idea. I can't find a positive comment about it anywhere
outside Google and of course governments who love censorship and
control, and some observers suggest it could be illegal in some
countries.

Enough of Big Tech telling us what we can or can't install on the
devices we pay good money for! Google's plan is an authoritarian
dream!
