CSI Exhibition (ECAP - 2002) inaugurated in city today.

The tenth successive Exhibition of Computers and Allied Products
(ECAP-2002), was inaugurated today (31st August) at 9:30 am, by Mr. Karnal
Singh, IPS, DIG Police, Goa; at the Conference Hall of the Hotel Mandovi in
the city.

Mr. Karnal Singh also released the CSI - IT Directory 2002, a comprehensive
directory of IT related products and services, published annually by the
CSI Goa Chapter. The IT Directory 2002, is available free to visitors at
the exhibition.

Speaking at the Inaugural function, Mr. Singh, lauded the work being done
by the CSI in updating the common man on the latest trends and technologies
by organising such exhibitions annually, providing an event for people to
update themselves on the latest in the fields of Computers and Information
Technology. Referring to the rapid advances in all areas of InfoTech, Mr.
Singh re-iterated the fact that all sections of society, whether they were
lay-persons, Govt. officials, IT service and solutions providers or top
management, should keep themselves abreast of the latest in this ever
changing field.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Prashant Kuncolienkar, Chairperson CSI - Goa
Chapter explained the CSI philosophy of having the annual ECAP in
September, for Goan IT users to update their knowledge on the latest in
Computers and IT and avail maximum benefit of depreciation on items
purchased. He also highlighted past and recent activities of the CSI Goa
Chapter, with special mention of the 2001 IT Vision seminar, which resulted
in the publication of a white paper on "IT Visions for Goa", which was
recently presented to the Govt. of Goa. 

Mr. Prakash Mahambre, Chairperson of the ECAP-2002 read out the report on
this year's exhibition, Mr. Anupam Saraph, Secretary of the chapter
proposed the vote of thanks and Mr. Shrivallabh Sardessai compered the
function. 

This year's Exhibition, Goa's premier IT is on view to the general public
at Panjim on 31st August and 1st September and on 7th and 8th of September
at Hotel Nanutel at Margao.

Of special interest to visitors at this year's ECAP is the unique Linux
Info-Centre, at the Hotel Mandovi's, 1st floor Rampon hall, by volunteers
of the CSI-Goa Chapter and Linux user group.
