I am perplexed by what I read about Mr. Singh and the King Cobra. If it
is illegal to catch a snake (Mr. Singh did not kill it) then what about the
countless snakes that I have seen while travelling the roads on Goa killed
before being made to die a thousand deaths by cars and scooters running over
them.
I think that the Christian population of Goa is an ignorant
population that is misled by the Church with its story of Adam and Eve and
the evil snake that tempted Eve to eat the apple. As Mark Twain has said, "If
Adam and Eve were told not to eat the snake, they would have left the apple
and eaten the snake". In the village of Salem, Salvador do Mundo is a man who
possesses a gun, works for the passport office in the service of the
Government of India and has killed two monkeys because they ate his papayas.
I am glad that I did not steal his papayas. Goans have a strange concept of
animal treatment. Where in the world does one see Vegetarian dogs? Birds in
cages depriving them of their liberty.
If we fail to love the animals that the Almighty created and left
in our care, how can we treat one another with magnanimity? Pity.
