The 'Osmitai Jyot' of Konkani Bhasha Mandal's Goa Yuva Mahotsav will reach
Collem village on Sunday, 1st September, campaigning on the Mhadei issue,
at the initiative of Hemadbarshem Konkani Kendra and Dudhasagar Pearls, the
local organisations.
As the life of Collem and surrounding villages is entirely depending on the
Dudhasagar waterfall and the river, the Karnataka government's plan to
construct a dam on this river to divert the water will create a disaster.
As a part of the Osmitai Vors (Identity Year) activity on the occasion of
125th birth anniversary of Shennoi Goembab, the youth of the KBM have thus
taken up the statewide awareness campaign on the issue.
The function would begin at 10 am, by lighting the Identity Torch at the
hands of Collem Sarpanch Mr Naresh Shigaonkar. A procession of students,
youth and villagers will then go around the village and culminate in a
public function at the Church Grounds.
The public function would begin with a street play on Mhadei, performed by
theVivekanand Kala Sadarikaran Manch of Keri, Sattari. It would be followed
by a public meeting, to be presided over by Mrs Nirmala Sawant, president
of the Mhadei Bachao Abhiyan.
The meeting will also be addressed by Prof. Prakash Paryekar, Prof.
Purnanand Chari, Mr Prashant Naik, local Fr. Pascol Fernandes, Mollem
Sarpanch Mrs Pornima Govekar, Deputy Sarpanch Mr Rajendra Desai, Mollem
Sarpanch Mr Naresh Shigaonkar, local journalist Mr Kalidas Kanekar and Dr
Uday Kakodkar.
Mr Ramnath Gaude, president of the Hemadbarshem Konkani Kendra and Mr
Nilesh Panchawadkar, president of the Dudhasagar Pearls have appealed to
all the local people to attend the meeting in a large number.
