For a while, Gmail has given us the option of adding appointments and dates
to our Google calendars when it recognizes dates in emails.

But now, it seems, Gmail is doing this all on its own, without asking!

Who thought that would be a good thing, I wonder?

I woke up this morning finding something in my Google Calendar that I
definitely didn't put there. It got there because of an email message I
received, which is still unread in my Inbox.

It doesn't especially give me the warm-fuzzies to know that Google has made
that step. Maybe it isn't precisely "evil", but some would say it
oversteps the principles of Google's motto ("Don't be evil"). Doing things
behind my back without my permission, comes pretty close.
