That's weird, in my Chrome browser, if I click the 'Sign out' button I am definitely signed out. I can try as I might to open Gmail or any other Google app but just get the login screen every time. My Chrome itself is still signed in/connected but I still cannot open Gmail without entering my password again. Perhaps a clear cache/cookies is needed on yours?
