Hi Paul Firefox <https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/> is a product of the Mozilla Foundation <https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/>. You use Sync in Firefox to synchronize your data across devices, and to store data such as passwords (eg. your Gmail login). The Firefox account used with Sync is otherwise unrelated to your Google/Gmail account. If you use Chrome, you can sign in with your Google account in it's settings to sync your data.
