rsync to OSGeo would definitely be easier - sounds like a plan to me.

GeoTools download is done -  came in at about 67 G - though I still need to
do a bit of post processing, as the fetch from SF requires a query param
that winds up getting included in the filename, and the rename command
included in the script to fix this didn't work on MacOS.
GeoServer download is in progress - looks like it's going to be quite a bit
bigger, and take significantly longer.
