Thanks for the response. I have tried this but I am perplexed by the response. Geoserver returns 202 which is accepted. There does not seem to be any more information in the response.
Looking at the Geoserver logs it shows that something is going on with the and it is trying to update the mosaics shape file but in practice nothing happens and the tile is not added.
