So it seems the path to use would be http://localhost:8080/geoserver/rest/security/usergroup/user/{user} Unfortunately this class seems to have no tests, I'm baffled it managed to get into a core module... thankfully some years ago we started restricting how code gets in, situations like this one are unlikely to happen any more.
