Ok. It sounds interesting. It seems that our version does not work logically.
Maybe we should check out our installation because it seems that “Enable data
security” option has not any influence to gwc behavior. All datasets are seeing
or possible to use in different users. Has there been any development since
2.8.2 (our version)?

I quickly checked the code again and layer groups are indeed covered. If the
user doesn't have access to any of the layers inside the group, the GWC request
will return an access denied.

are making requests from a browser that is not
logged into GeoServer as admin in another window right?
