In particular, the default user and password are given at http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/gettingstarted/web-admin-quickstart /index.html To recover the master password, assuming you can log into the hosting environment, see http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/security/passwd.html#security-maste r-passwd and If the server has been secured, and you have no other access, you'll have to reinstall it.
