Dear Andrea, Thanks for your reply. I have generated a single level using gdal_retile (gdal_retile.py -ps 8192 8192 -targetDir). As you suggested to add the overviews to those tiles, I did that (gdaladdo -r average imagename 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512 1024 2048 4096 8192). I can confirm that the overviews are added to the tiff because the size has been increased significantly. Then I used mosaic data store, still the same problem. Am I missing any obvious advanced geoserver configuration?
