Today I tried to upgrade from OpenGeo Suite 3.0.2 to 3.1, which is
GeoServer 2.2.1** to GeoServer 2.2.5.

There was some trouble with the data directory: layer groups could not be
read.

Here are the relevant parts of the geoserver log, and the layer group XML
files:
https://gist.github.com/chrisberkhout/a0c311f4772fee7383a7

For now it looks like I should just recreate those layer groups, but has
anyone else had this issue or know how to resurrect our original layer
group files?

Cheers,
Chris

** Actually, we were using a GeoServer just past version 2.2.1 - git rev:
fdce36, which was a fix for GEOS-4173, added in 2.2.2 as commit a0ca3c. I
doubt that that is the source of our data directory issues though.
