Hello Hugo, no, it is not a known error. And sorry for the late reply, I just saw your message. Is there any more info you can provide, like the exact stack trace you're getting, geosever version, version of ArcSDE, the ArcSDE Java libs, and database version?
Also, does this happen with any raster layer? would you provide the output of sdelayer -o describe command for a failing one?
