Hi, WFS is basically meant for delivering features as they are. WFS gives whole lot of operators and functions for selecting features but if you want to manipulate the features for example by simplifying then it is more suitable for WPS (web processing service). WPS can take the input from WFS http://docs.geoserver.org/stable/en/user/extensions/wps/processes.html.
