Dear Edna and Hanna,

Many thanks. Changing my input projection from Gauss-Kruger zone 27 to UTM
zone 35N has generated coordinates accurate to within ~1m in X and ~0m in Y.

Kind regards

Tim

Hi Tim and Edna,

Either as Edna suggested or TM35FIN as projection method (should produce the
same result as UTM35N). Datum is ERTS89.

KKJ4 is indeed the old KKJ system, zone 4. In Geosoft this is defined as
Finland zone 4 as projection method and KKJ as datum.

Kind regards,

I asked a Finnish friend who knows a lot about coordinate systems and this
was his reply:

I don't know Geosoft, but my guess is that KKJ4 means zone 4 in the old
KKJ-system with Gauss-Kruger map projection,
central meridian 30E, false easting 4500000 and scale factor 1.0.
Output is in ETRS89 UTM Zone 35.
Transformation (Coordinate Frame) parameters KKJ to ETRS89:
dx:-96.062
dy:-82.428
dz:-121.753
rx:-4.801
ry:-0345
rz:1.376
sc:1.496

I hope something in there makes sense.

Hi All,

I am trying to transform coordinates for a dataset from Finland.

The dataset has been supplied to me in the KKJ4 coordinate system, and I
want to display it in the Euref_FIN_TM35FIN (ETRS89) coordinate system.

I've used the following Geosoft parameters:

Input Datum: ETRF89
Input Projection: Gauss-Kruger zone 27

Output Datum: KKJ
Output Projection: Finland zone 4

but get silly numbers.

Can anyone point out what I'm doing wrong?

Kind regards
Tim
