Hi, Thanks Ed for the reply. With the latest Oasis montaj version, you can also save interim IRI results to download and compare the inversion result with and without IRI right away.
Bahman, Geosoft has not to date submitted IRI studies into peer-reviewed literature, but as Ed mentioned you can find a number of resources explaining the use of IRI. I've linked a few here: http://updates.geosoft.com/downloads/files/how-to-guides/Best-Practice-Guide_Sharpening_using_IRI.pdf http://www.geosoft.com/products/voxi-earth-modelling/iterative-reweighting-inversion http://www.geosoft.com/geophysical-inversion-modelling/videos/top-5-inversion-best-practices-interpreting-magnetization-vector Regards, Taronish Taronish Pithawala Geophysical Modelling Technical Lead | Geosoft geosoft.com<http://www.geosoft.com/> | blog<http://blogs.geosoft.com/> | twitter<http://twitter.com/geosoft> | linkedIn<http://www.linkedin.com/company/geosoft-inc.> | facebook<http://www.facebook.com/GeosoftInc> | T +1 416.369.0111 #330 | M +1 647.964.1633 85% of respondents rank data management as a critical or a top five issue for their exploration group. There were a few geosoft authored papers published about 3 years ago at least one included an example of iri sharpening, search voxi iri on the names Macleod and Ellis. I'm not aware of fully 3rd party iri vs conventional inversion case studies but they may exist now, Google or check the geosoft website. I've used the iri on voxi mag models and recommend it with a setting of 1 or 2 but you can test it up to setting 4. It does focus or shrink down modeled susceptibility to more discrete higher sus zones in some cases without a lot of time consuming inversion setting experimentation, the result can be quickly compared with a conventional voxi mag inversion, and/or with an mvi inversion with zero iri sharpening. You can then select what is thought to be the more realistic model based on any geologic, magnetic properties, borehole, mag profile, parametric model or other info.
