Some years ago, I had a Crucial flash drive die in a couple of months when the kernel's FAT implementation was updating the FAT on every block write. So it got rather hammered when writing ISO images to it. However, SSDs are not the same as SD cards in that they have wear levelling, so this is far less of an issue.
