You did. You had it in world, remember. At some point you did something like this: emerge poppler-bindings So, it went in world, portage continued to emerge it to the latest and greatest newest version every time you ran emerge -avuND world. Eventually all consumers of the library were removed and you were left with an unused package in world. Incidentally, poppler has a long and fine history of insanely breaking users' configs every time its developers sneeze. The number of times I've had poppler show up in revdep-rebuild output defies any kind of sane, logical, rational description.
