When I emerged rails: dev-lang/ruby-1.8.5_p2-r1 dev-ruby/rails-1.1.6 Now, <http://packages.gentoo.org/package/dev-ruby/rails?full_cat> shows that 1.2.5 is stable, though. 1.8.6_p110-r1 looks to be latest stable release of ruby available through portage for x86 systems.
