I found in media-video/mplayer/mplayer-1.0_rc1_p20070824.ebuild the following:
RDEPEND= ... ... encode? ( aac? ( media-libs/faac ) mp2? ( media-sound/twolame ) mp3? ( media-sound/lame ) ) ...
