I have been trying to update a gentoo system that I had not touched for around a year. I managed to mangle some things, and the latest was a complaint about a file in portage. I removed to offender and tried to re-emerge portage, but I am still stuck. If anyone knows a way I could force it to refresh portage files and/or installed packages, I would appreciate it. A pointer to the right place in the docs would be fine, I just have not been able to find it, and have lost several days fighting with it already.
