Here's a workaround that seems to help in a lot of cases... 1) Shut down all instances of Firefox
2) rename your profile directory. It usually looks something like ~/.mozilla/firefox/<gobbledeygook> 3) Start Firefox again. It'll create a new profile. Firefox has occasional problems when the profile from an older version won't work for the new version. You should be able to copy or import the bookmarks file from the old format.
