On my AMD Athlon 2500+ with 1024 MB memory & 13 GB disk available for PORTAGE_TMPDIR , download took 30 m & compiling lasted 5 h 14 m & on earlier occasions used 4 GB disk. I leave it running while I'm asleep -- not always at night (grin) -- & do it in a root Konsole on one of my 10 KDE desktops; I kill Xscreensaver & switch off the monitor while I'm sleeping: some of the screensavers use a lot of CPU. The longest pkg otherwise seems to be Kword + 5 deps at 1 h 22 m ; several other pkgs take 1 h +/- a bit.
