Actually, "evms" is all I have in RC_VOLUME_ORDER in /etc/conf.d/rcI'll try to remove the EVMS activation from checkroot now and see how that works.
Wow, it looks like doing this fixed all the problems. No re-mounting tricks. EVMS gets activated once, and on a writeable filesystem. Thanks a lot Richard.
