Not sure what question you are asking here...do you just need to know how to login as root when staring at the Gnome desktop of the liveCD? If so, Ctrl+Alt+F1 will give you a root console shell, where you can change the root password to something not random. Then you can switch back to X if you like and do an "su - root" from a terminal window to get root access there.
