Well, I was lazy so I just enabled 'mad', which allowed xine to play mp3s for me. However, to get amarok to play mp3s I still had to re-emerge ffmpeg and even xine-ui. Then, magically, Amarok started working again. -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
