This is actually a kernel panic caused by unloading the fglrx module. See: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=113685 There are many bugs in b.g.o. take a look. Many things solve this issue for different people. I have tried most of the "solutions" and something has worked but I am not sure what. I only get a kernel panic 1/10 times when restarting/shutting down X. You might want to try the latest testing ati-drivers. I am using 8.23.7. HTH, Jeremy -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
