I run bash 3.0, I have this in my /etc/inputrc "\M-[A": history-search-backward "\M-[B": history-search-forward
which makes things like $l<up-arrow> $ls -l /tmp <up-arrow> $ls -laR /tmp when I upgraded to 3.1 this morning (emerge world), I lost this behaviour. Between 3.0 and 3.1, there wasn't any config file changes which could have caused this, so I don't know why it doesn't work.
