Please post the dmesg output from plugging in the drive.  Also the
output of "zgrep USB /proc/config.gz | grep -v "^#" (or use grep &
/usr/src/linux/.config if you don't have /proc/config.gz).

Yes, true 1.1 speed would be about 1MB/sec.
