eix smpeg * media-libs/smpeg Available versions: 0.4.4-r6 ~0.4.4-r7 Installed: 0.4.4-r6 Homepage: http://www.lokigames.com/development/smpeg.php3 Description: SDL MPEG Player Library equery depgraph =media-libs/smpeg-0.4.4-r6 [ Searching for packages matching =media-libs/smpeg-0.4.4-r6... ] * dependency graph for media-libs/smpeg-0.4.4-r6 `-- media-libs/smpeg-0.4.4-r6 `-- media-libs/libsdl-1.2.8-r1 Runtime Dependencies smpeg-0.4.4-r7 | >= media-libs/libsdl - 1.2.0 gtk = x11-libs/gtk+ - 1.2* opengl virtual/opengl X virtual/x11 smpeg-0.4.4-r6 | >= media-libs/libsdl - 1.2.0 gtk = x11-libs/gtk+ - 1.2* opengl virtual/opengl X virtual/x11 As you see, smpeg depends (hard, irrefutable dependency, not optional) on libsdl, in a version equal to or greater than 1.2.0 (I use 1.2.8, as you can also see). What is the status of libsdl on your box? Is it installed? If so, what version? It appears that either an incorrect version is installed, or the installed version is broken (if it was not installed at all, smpeg would have installed it before installing itself, so clearly there is some reason that Portage thinks it didn't have to).
