Indeed, i knew you didn't mean that. Unfortunately, in my experience - and i say this as someone who actively avoids systemd for my own use-cases, and has made significant efforts to support alternatives - there are a number of people who assume that anything ending in 'd' (or 'ctl') must be directly related to systemd. (Just as there are a number of people who assume that D-Bus is part of systemd, even though it predates systemd by years and can be used totally independently of it.) So i was basically trying to convey "One can't necessarily assume that use of 'd' at the end of things, including increasing use of '.d', must somehow be a result of systemd." i'm sorry for not being clearer.
